Do I need a PRODA account?

Do you have a PRODA account? Maybe you heard of PRODA but are unsure what it is? Today we look at what it is, and how it’s beneficial for you as an allied health practitioner.

The acronym PRODA stands for PROvider Digital Access – it’s an online system that is managed by the Department of Human Services and it enables you to securely access certain government services as a health provider. This access is via a username and password, and a verification code that is sent to your mobile phone via SMS or to your email address each time you log in. This verification code process is to maintain security for your account.

The types of services that you can access as a health professional using your PRODA account include:

1. HPOS – Health Professionals Online Service

This service will enable you to (for example) to lodge a DVA Allied Health Webclaim or access your DVA Allied Health Webclaim reports. You can also manage your details like selecting delegates (e.g. admin staff who process the claims), update or add your banking and personal details to receive payments, view details about your provider number or create a new provider location.

2. NDIS – National Disability Insurance Scheme

Access to the myplace provider portal will enable you to view your information as a registered NDIS provider, create service bookings and manage payments.

It is important to note that every health provider wishing to access these government services online will require a separate PRODA account – that is, you can’t just set up one for your practice and have all staff (if you employ staff) access online service through the one account – this is a “no no”!.

The benefits of PRODA for you as an allied health professional is that it provides you with one username and password to access multiple government online services – and it’s portable! Take it wherever you go! You don’t need to install any fancy software or hardware – you simply need internet access. A little word about the type of internet browsers supported - you will need to be running the following versions: Internet Explorer 9, Mozilla Firefox 30, Google Chrome 39 or Safari 5.
